Philosophy

Sexuality is an important dimension of our lives. When sexual problems arise, it is important to look carefully at how medical, personal, and relationship factors contribute to the difficulty. It is also important to keep in mind that a sexual problem almost always affects both the client and the client’s partner. The initial goal of treatment, therefore, is to not only improve the sexual experience, but to help the relationship overcome any hurt or disappointment that arose because of the sexual problem. Treatment will usually begin with a direct focus on resolving the sexual symptom. If the symptom does not improve, the focus may expand to underlying personal and relationship issues that are interfering with comfortable sexual expression.
